Participation of the School of Public Health and Safety, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, in the International Meeting of the Technical Committee on Health and Medicine of Islamic Countries (OIC-15)

 

The online meeting of the Technical Committee on Health and Medicine within the framework of the OIC-15 Dialogue Platform was held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 (24 Tir 1405), with the broad participation of scientific and research representatives from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This international event, conducted virtually with the participation of the OIC General Secretariat (OIC-GS) and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Pakistan (MoST, Islamabad), brought together delegates from 17 countries, including Iran, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Egypt, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC (COMSTECH) actively participated in the meeting with a specialized delegation of prominent researchers.

Through the coordination of the Office of International Affairs of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, the School of Public Health and Safety was introduced to the COMSTECH Secretariat as the university's representative to participate in this international meeting. Accordingly, Dr. Manouchehr Karami, Dean of the School of Public Health and Safety, and Dr. Sanaz Sohrabizadeh, Director of International Affairs at the School, actively attended the specialized committee, presenting the school's scientific and research perspectives and engaging in discussions and exchanges of views with other representatives from member states.

The main topics of this meeting included the development and strengthening of scientific and research cooperation in the field of health and medicine among universities and research centers of OIC member states, the expansion of scientific diplomacy and the establishment of international networks for the transfer of knowledge and modern medical technologies, the implementation of joint research projects focusing on common health challenges in the Islamic world, and the exchange of experiences and scientific capacities, as well as the introduction of laboratory and research capabilities of member institutions. Representatives from various countries emphasized the necessity of scientific synergy and the utilization of available capacities to enhance health standards in Islamic countries.

This meeting, which was met with great interest from representatives of member states, provided a suitable platform for effective interactions and planning for future collaborations in the form of specialized working groups and major regional projects. The participation of the School of Public Health and Safety of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in this international event was carried out in line with the development of scientific diplomacy, the enhancement of international cooperation, and the strengthening of the university's role in the scientific networks of the Islamic world. It also paved the way for establishing and expanding future collaborations with universities and scientific institutions of OIC member states. This valuable participation represents an effective step toward elevating the international standing of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and achieving the overarching goals of higher education in the country in the field of health.
